Again, most of the movement from the finger takes place from the "A" knuckle or the knuckle where the finger meets the hand.

The fingers should have a slight bend to them when stroking through the string.

DO NOT PLANT THE FINGERTIP ONTO THE STRING, APPLY PRESSURE AND RELEASE, EVER.

Just stroke through the string as if it weren't even there.  When the finger makes the return path to playing position, knuckles "B" and "C" have to band slightly to clear the string.

Otherwise the back of the fingernail will strike the string when returning.
